The Spaniard, who recently had a seven-month stint at Chelsea, has been unveiled as the new boss of the Partenopei by the club president

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed Rafa Benitez as the club's new coach via Twitter.

The former Chelsea interim manager, who won the Europa League this season, is set to take over from Walter Mazzarri.

The 51-year-old recently left the Partenopei to join Inter after coach Andrea Stramaccioni was sacked for a disappointing ninth-placed finish this term.

De Laurentiis revealed through Twitter that he was delighted to land the 53-year-old.

He said: "Rafa Benitez is the new coach of Napoli. A man of great international experience. A leader."

The Spaniard has coached in Italy before, but endured an unsuccessful spell at Inter, lasting just six months after inheriting Jose Mourinho's treble-winning side.

The club released an official statement on their website saying: "Rafa Benitez is the new coach of Napoli. An agreement was signed [on Monday] in London.

"Napoli are happy to welcome a coach so prestigious to our own family. A welcome also to his collaborators."

The striker collected 64 per cent of the overall vote, beating club captain Steven Gerrard and recently retired Jamie Carragher into second and third spot respectively

Liverpool supporters have voted Luis Suarez as their Player of the Year for 2012-13.

The 26-year-old, who was included in the PFA Team of the Year and finished second behind Gareth Bale in the PFA Player of the Year award, scored 30 goals in all competitions for the Reds this season.

The latter part of his season has been marred by his 10-game ban for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic, which will stretch into next term, and Suarez wanted to thank the fans for their support throughout the campaign.

"It's incredible for me," Suarez told LFC TV. "This is very important for my life and I know I have the supporters helping me - it's so important for me.

"My work is helping the team and I try my best on the pitch. I hoped the team would be in a better position but we tried our best. We are all ready for next season.

"When the manager arrived here it was a little difficult because maybe he didn't know the players or the club. The first season for the manager was good for the confidence of the players. Next season we can be better.

"Of course there's more to come from not only me but all of the players in the dressing room. That's important."

Suarez joined Liverpool from Ajax in January 2011 and has since scored 51 goals in 96 appearances.

However, the striker's future at Anfield is still uncertain after Brendan Rodgers admited Liverpool face a battle to hang on to him this summer despite insisting they are under no pressure to sell their star man.

Lewandowski will be a Bayern player in a matter of weeks as Polish striker seeks 'new club and new life,' claims agent

Denied: Lewandowski has 36 goals in all competitions this season, but couldn't beat Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer in the Champions League final
Add Lewandowski has 36 goals in all competitions this season, but couldn't beat Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer in the Champions League final
Kucharski said Lewandowski is 'curious to get to know a new club and new life.'
Lewandowski was the second best scorer in the German league this season with 24 goals in 31 games. He scored all four goals in a 4-1 win over Real Madrid in the Champions League semifinals.
He has another season on his contract with Dortmund. Dortmund’s chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke reacted angrily to Heynckes’ apparent indiscretion after the final and said Dortmund had not received a formal transfer request from Bayern. Watzke had initially set a deadline of May 15 for offers for Lewandowski.
Dortmund has a dilemma: Either let Lewandowski go now for a fat transfer fee or see him leave for free once his contract is over.
If Lewandowski were to leave, Dortmund would prefer to see him go to a foreign club rather than join the Bundesliga rival, which has already lured one of its other stars, the highly talented midfielder Mario Goetze.
Goetze, however, had an exit clause in his contract that Lewandowski doesn’t have.

Mourinho asaka nyota sita

How will Fergie spend his retirement? Cooking, reading about JFK, working out in the gym and taking his wife to the cinema By James Andrew

Sir Alex Ferguson maybe set for retirement but it is unlikely that he will settle for a quiet life.
The long-serving Manchester United manager announced last week that he will end his 27 year reign at Old Trafford after Sunday’s game with West Brom.
But with 11 grandchildren and a busy work out routine in the gym as well as his wife to indulge it is easy to see how Fergie will fill his time.
But the chances of Ferguson returning to his roots and going back to Scotland look unlikely as his family are settled in England.

In an interview for Manchester radio station Key 103 recorded in 2007, Ferguson said: ‘I miss Scotland. I must say it's fantastic. But of course my home is now in England.
‘You are subject to where your family wants to be. All of the grandchildren are born in England and my sons are here, my wife's happy here, she's got her grandchildren. There's no reason to go back to Scotland.
‘I try to have as normal home life as possible. I think having the wife that I've got who is disinterested in football it's easy.’
On his fitness regime he said: ‘I try to go to the gym a couple of times a week. I try to do 15 mins on the treadmill, 10 mins on the bike and five mins on the rowing machine. The bike is the hardest one. Ten minutes is enough.

Balotelli: Mancini is a great manager... but I'm not surprised he's been sacked by City

Mario Balotelli is not surprised that Roberto Mancini was sacked by Manchester City because of problems between his former manager and the club.
Balotelli, who was signed by Mancini for City before being sold to AC Milan in January, insisted his fellow Italian is a 'great manager'.
Mancini was sacked by City on Monday after his team failed to meet targets laid down by the owners and is expected to be succeeded by Manuel Pellegrini, currently at Malaga.

Benfica 1 Chelsea 2: Ivanovic rises high in injury time to seal dramatic Europa League success for Benitez's Blues

Champions of Europe. You know what they are. The header looped back across Benfica’s six-yard box and goalkeeper Artur could only watch with mounting, helpless horror. Chelsea, an unstoppable force in European competition, had done it again.
They had been outplayed and won. They were second best and would soon lift the trophy. The bright screens in the Amsterdam Arena had long shown that 90 minutes was up. There would be no revival, no brave comeback. There was no time. The goal celebrations, the post-match shindig, it all seemed to roll into one.
So here we are again. Not quite as dramatic as Munich, maybe, but no less impressive for that. Not many teams can win the big matches in adversity like this. There is a special spirit within this team and it is being handed down, like folklore. Chelsea find a way to win. Chelsea refuse to lie down. Imagine what they would be like in a boxing ring.

The Tottenham manager is in favor of his compatriot coming back to Stamford Bridge, with the Real Madrid coach expected to leave the Santiago Bernabeu

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has admitted a potential return of Jose Mourinho to Chelsea and the Premier League would be "spectacular".

The former Blues boss is expected to end his time in Spain with Real Madrid this summer and said following the club's Champions League exit that he might not return next season, stating that he wants to go where he "feels loved".

With Rafa Benitez's short-term contract in west London due to expire in the summer, all is in place for Mourinho to return - and Villas-Boas is expecting him to do so.

Villas-Boas told reporters: "He obviously wants to come back to England, whether he has a club aligned or not, we never know.

"It's extremely unlikely when someone makes it that public that something is not set out already but he is a great addition to the Premier League. He has a wonderful history in this league and I think it will be spectacular to have him back."

The current Spurs boss worked under Mourinho during the 50-year-old’s time at Porto, Chelsea and Inter, and believes his former boss' failure to win the Champions League in Madrid will be seen as an underachievement.

"When he left [England] he wasn't that well loved by a few of you guys [the media] and that was something we talked about.

"He was loved in all the clubs where he has won titles, in Real Madrid the same.

"There is maximum respect for what he has achieved, but for it to be at the level of Real Madrid's expectancy, we will never know. Probably not, but he certainly has won a league against a dream Barcelona team, which is a great achievement."

The Real Madrid director of football believes that suitors will be willing to pay 60 million pounds for the Welshman, whom he feels can make the difference for a club.
Real Madrid director of football Zinedine Zidane has warned Tottenham that not even a 60 million pound asking price will put interested clubs off bidding for Gareth Bale.

The legendary Frenchman has been spotted at White Hart Lane a number of times this campaign and believes that the newly crowned PFA Player and Young Player of the Year could prove the pivotal difference between a club winning the league and Champions League.

"Tottenham could command 40 million pounds, 50 million pounds, maybe even 60 million pounds for him," Zidane is quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror. "It is a lot of money but there are maybe three or four teams in the world that can pay that sort of transfer fee and it won't put them off. A player like Bale can be the difference between a big club winning the league or Champions League.

"They would be getting the best player in Europe this season and he is at an age where he can still play at the top for another 10 years. What I like about him is that he has this electric pace but also a big footballing brain to go with it. That is very rare." Follow GOAL.COM on
